šŸ”¹ Iwi are stepping up—so why aren’t other agencies? šŸ”¹

Last week, See the Signs sent out seven contracts to Iwi-led organisations across New Zealand. They are seeing the signs, taking child abuse seriously, and committing to safeguarding their tamariki and rangatahi.

But what about other agencies?
So far, they have been in the minority when it comes to responding and requesting safeguarding training. And I have to ask—why?

šŸ›‘ The safety of our children should be New Zealand’s first priority. If it isn’t, why not?

The fact that Iwi-led organisations are prioritising safeguarding is powerful—but the lack of response from other agencies is concerning.

– Maybe some still see safeguarding as a reactive process, stepping in only after harm has been done, rather than investing in prevention and early intervention.
– Others might believe their existing child protection policies are enough, without realising the gaps that predators exploit every day.

But here’s the truth: Predators thrive when people assume they are doing enough. When agencies hesitate to take action. When frontline workers aren’t equipped to recognise the early signs.

So let’s ask the hard questions:
šŸ”¹ What are you doing right now to actively prevent abuse, not just respond to it?
šŸ”¹ Are your staff confident in recognising the early warning signs?
šŸ”¹ Do you understand how predators operate, and are you prepared to intervene before harm occurs?

The more we push this conversation into the mainstream, the harder it will be for agencies to ignore.

Safeguarding is not optional. It is a non-negotiable responsibility.

šŸ’” If your organisation is ready to take action, book a consultation with me via www.seethesigns.co.nz—because silence is not an option when it comes to protecting our children.
