Hi, I’m Tina. Lets safeguard children in Aotearoa together.
From decades in policing, I possess expert knowledge in Child Sexual Exploitation and genuinely passionate about fostering conversations on safeguarding to protect our tamariki (children) and rangatahi (young people) all across New Zealand. By doing so, we save our childrens future so they grow up and pass it on.
Why is there a need for Training?
- Out of 41 EU and OECD countries, Aotearoa ranks 35th in child wellbeing outcomes - Source: Unicef
- 1 in 2 New Zealand women have experienced Intimate Violence in their lifetime, this includes physical, sexual, psychological and emotional abuse.
- A child dies every 5 weeks in NZ as a result of family violence Source: UNICEF Innocenti Report
- 20% of Girls and 9% of Boys in New Zealand report unwanted sexual abuse Source: UNICEF Aotearoa.Child
- Child Safeguarding Training is NOT mandatory for professionals or volunteers who work with children and young people in Aotearoa – even for professionals such as teachers, doctors, counsellors and nurses. Right now in New Zealand, it is not required by law to report childhood sexual abuse – or any child maltreatment – when it is seen or suspected. Source: Children’s act 2010
- In 2017, Nudes shared by Teens was 4%. In 2023, it was 42% - Source Netsafe NZ.
- In 2022, 27 reports per month, of sextortion, were made to NZ Police. In 2023 it doubled to 58 reports per month - Source NZ Police.
By completing specialist training, you can identify the abuse early and stop more children becoming a statistic.

Why Do My Team Need Safeguarding Training?
The Abuse in Care Royal Commission Enquiry, https://www.abuseincare.org.nz/ is due to be completed in March 2024. It is expected that there will be the introduction of mandatory reporting of suspected child abuse within the recommendations.
Once legislation passes, this will require child safeguarding and child protection training for all agencies & NGO’s involved with Tamariki and Rangatahi. As a result, everyone who works with or interacts with children should know what safeguarding means and what to do.
Ask yourself these 5 questions...
- Do I understand Safeguarding?
- Would I be able to See The Signs that a child or young person is a victim and in need of Safeguarding?
- Would I know what to do if I believed I did See The Signs?
- Is my team up to date with their Safeguarding knowledge?
If you answered NO to any of these questions, reach out to us so we can help you gain this knowledge.
